So far, 170 teachers and doctors from 34 departments of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) have been trained in Evidence-Based Medicine. This training was provided by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the university. This information was given at the certificate distribution ceremony of the training workshop held by IQAC at the conference room of the university’s super specialized hospital on Monday, September 22, 2025, with teachers and doctors from 8 departments. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam distributed the certificates as the chief guest at the training workshop. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader was the special guest. IQAC Director Professor Dr. Nurun Nahar Khanam presided over the event. IQAC Additional Director Dr. Deene Mujahid Mohammad Faruk Osmani moderated the event.
In his speech as the chief guest, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said, Evidence-Based Medicine Practice will not only reduce the medical costs but will also play a role in reducing the mortality rate of patients. If the medical community is encouraged to practice evidence-based medicine, patients will not only save money, but also there will not be much difference in the prescriptions and investigations of different doctors for the same patient. Training on Evidence-Based Medicine will make a great contribution to science-based medical practice, including acquiring the necessary knowledge on medical audit and clinical audit. This workshop will contribute to increasing the quality of medical services, medical education and research, which will bring about a big change in the development of the overall health sector.
In his speech as a special guest, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader said, the workshop on Evidence-Based Medicine has provided an opportunity for teachers and doctors to prepare themselves and make themselves competent. Evidence-Based Medicine has made an immense contribution to increasing public standards and skills, and acquiring correct knowledge. In his speech, the Pro-Vice Chancellor expressed hope that if the medical community is enriched by acquiring the necessary knowledge on Evidence-Based Medicine and with the concerted efforts of all concerned, it will be possible to reach the peak of improvement in the country’s health sector.
In her speech, Dr. Maria Mahtab, Registrar of the Pediatric Department of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital, mentioned the need to spread training workshops on Evidence-Based Medicine to all medical universities, medical colleges, and institutes of the country and called for transforming the Evidence-Based Medicine training workshop into a national program.
29 teachers and doctors from the Department of Rheumatology, Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Liver Transplant Surgery, Department of Pediatric Cardiology, Department of Virology, Department of Forensic Medicine, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Department of Gynecological Oncology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility participated in today’s training workshop. In addition, Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital Registrar Dr. Maria Mahtab, Dhaka Medical College Hospital Resident Surgeon Dr. Mir Rashekh Alam Abhi participated in today’s workshop.
