Sunday, November 23, 2025, at BMU’s Shaheed Dr. Milton Hall, the 2-day training workshop was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of BAMU, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam. The special guest was the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad. The Treasurer of BMU, Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, presided over the event. The welcome address was delivered by BMU Director (Finance and Accounts) Mr. Khandaker Shafiqul Hasan (Ratan). Afroza Parveen, Director (Administration) of the Ministry of Planning, and Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Chief Instructor of the National Academy for Planning and Development, presented papers as research persons in this important workshop. 40 teachers and officials related to procurement activities of various departments participated in this important workshop.
In his speech as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor of BAMU, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said that the importance of procurement activities is essential for the needs and welfare of patients, and for the development of medical education and research. However, the procurement activities must be transparent and corruption-free. The rules and regulations have to be followed in the procurement activities, due to which some complications have to be faced. Many people refrain from purchasing activities for these reasons. This is not right at all. Various activities including purchasing new equipment, repairing old equipment have to be completed. It must be remembered that the procurement will be for the welfare of patients, and the law must also be followed. The law was made not to prevent, but for development. Therefore, those who are in charge of purchasing, especially those in charge of purchasing activities in various departments of Bangladesh Medical University, must take the responsibility of purchasing in the interest of patients, in the interest of medical education, and for the development of the department. Of course, they have to be more proactive. If they are proactive, it is possible to complete the procurement activities in accordance with the rules. It is also possible to complete the purchase of urgent equipment or equipment that needs to be repaired in accordance with the rules. Many necessary things can be purchased within the next one or two months. For this, it is also necessary to have a clear understanding of various procurement methods including RFQ, DPM, and open tender.
