Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Chairman of the Neonatology Department of Bangladesh Medical University; Under its leadership, a two- day “Capacity Development Workshop for Health Professionals to Enhance Data Analysis and Research Publication Skills” was held at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) to further strengthen and enable research work in the country ‘s healthcare system. A total of 25 healthcare professionals from various medical colleges and hospitals of the country participated in the workshop organized at the Neonatology Training Room of the university on 7 and 8 December 2025 .
Participant came from Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), Dhaka Medical College, Sir Salimullah Medical College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, Mugda Medical College, Manikganj Medical College Hospital, Kushtia Medical College Hospital, Community Based Medical College Hospital-Mymensingh, Bangladesh Children’s Hospital and Institute (BSH & I), Institute of Child and Maternal Health (ICMH), Narsingdi District Hospital and Dr. M. R. Khan Children’s Hospital and ICH.
The inaugural ceremony of the workshop was attended by- Bangladesh Medical University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md . Abdul Kalam Azad; Bangladesh Perinatal Society (BPS) President Professor Dr.Laila Arjumand Banu; Bangladesh Neonatal Forum (BNF) Secretary General Professor Md. Mujibur Rahman, Treasurer Dr. M.A. Rouf and BNF Former Secretary General Professor Sanjay Kumar Dey. The guests highlighted the importance of the training initiative and encouraged the young researchers to focus on research, integrity and international standard scientific writing. Twelves scientific officers from the Maternal and Child Health Division of ICDDR served as trainers in the workshop. Participants received hands- on training on data analysis methods, scientific writing, reference management, and publication strategies in internationally renowned journals.
The organizers said that research is very important for evidence-based decision-making and quality improvement in the country’s health sector . Such capacity-building workshops will increase the interest of health care workers in research, improve quality and have a positive impact on maternal, newborn, and child health services.
The workshop was jointly organized by the Department of Neonatology of Bangladesh Medical University, Bangladesh Neonatal Forum (BNF), Bangladesh Perinatal Society (BPS) and ICDDR’B. The entire workshop was funded by the Ad SEARCH project of ICDDR’B.
