Precision oncology has brought a revolutionary change in cancer treatment: Expert at seminar

An important scientific seminar titled “Precision Oncology in Ovarian Cancer: Molecular Profiling & Targeted Therapy” was organized by the Department of Gynaecological Oncology of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Shaheed Dr. Milon Hall. Experts participating in the seminar said that precision oncology has brought a revolutionary change in modern cancer treatment. Through molecular profiling, personalised treatment according to the patient’s genetic characteristics is now possible, which is significantly increasing the success of cancer treatment and patient survival rate. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy have already opened new horizons in ovarian cancer treatment.

The chief guest at this important seminar was the Honorable Treasurer of the University, Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar. In her speech, she highlighted the importance of precision oncology, the need to develop a person-centered medical system through it, and the possibility of its inclusion in the medical system of Bangladesh.

The special guest at the seminar was Professor Dr. Syed Md. Hossain, Chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology, BMU. He shed light on the practical application of targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and molecular profiling of ovarian cancer in modern cancer treatment.

The meeting was presided over by Professor Dr. Fawzia Hossain of the Department of Gynaecological Oncology.

The keynote address was presented by Dr. Tasneem Ara, a surgical oncologist and paediatric surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (LA, USA) and CHLA (Center for Cancer & Blood Disease), USA. She discussed in detail the recent advances in molecular profiling, targeted therapy, and precision oncology for ovarian cancer.

The seminar was also addressed by Professor Dr. Jannatul Ferdous, Chairman of the Department of Gynaecological Oncology, and Professor Dr. Begum Rokeya Anwar, Head of the Department (Gynaecological Oncology) of the National Cancer Research Institute. The program was moderated by Dr. Rifat Rahman, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Assistant Proctor, Bangladesh Medical University.
