The Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said that the first responsibility of nurses is to remove the dissatisfaction of patients and understand the suffering of patients. Nurses have to win the hearts of patients by serving them amidst risks and limitations, and various adversities. Patients should tell their unspoken things to nurses can. The nursing profession of Bangladesh must be taken to the peak of development. September 7, 2025, Sunday, He said these things as the chief guest at the ‘Capping Ceremony’ of the 14th batch of students of the Graduate Nursing Department at the Shaheed Dr. Milon Hall. The Vice-Chancellor said, Singapore has become a developed country with its services. Bangladesh has the opportunity to be known in the world with its nursing services. Nursing is a great profession whose importance is not only in society but also in religion. The medical service system can be perfected through advanced nursing services. Therefore, nurses must fully dedicate themselves to the great profession of nursing in order to improve medical services and win the hearts of patients.
In his speech as a special guest, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad said, “The importance of nursing service is particularly recognized in the holy religion of Islam and the history of Islam. The dignity of the nursing profession must be upheld through dedication to human service.”
In his speech as a special guest, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader said, “The current administration of Bangladesh Medical University has started providing grants for research to nurses, realizing the importance of the nursing profession. Nursing service is very important in medical care. I deeply realized how important nursing service is when I fell ill and was undergoing treatment in the ICU. It is our expectation that BMU nurses and nursing students will set a shining example of human service.”
This grand event included readings of holy scriptures, singing of the national anthem, performing of nursing songs, awarding of caps, oath-taking ceremony, and cultural programs.
The oath-taking ceremony was presided over by Prof. Dr. Md. Monir Hossain Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, BMU, and administered by Mr. Nupur De Costa, Assistant Prof. of the Graduate Nursing Department. Mr. Md. Harun Or Rashid Gazi, Associate Professor of the Graduate Nursing Department, delivered the welcome speech at the event. Ms. Rashida Begum, Service Supervisor, delivered the welcome speech. 100 nursing students took the oath at the capping ceremony and students of different years of the Graduate Nursing Department were present.
