Coast Guard holds a meeting to discuss the use of jelly-injected shrimp, shrimp fry, and the marketing of frozen food in Rupsa, Khulna. This information was given by Coast Guard Media Officer Lt. Commander Siam-ul-Haq on the morning of Tuesday, September 2, 2025. He said, a discussion meeting was held at Coast Guard Station Rupsa on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 10 am on the ban on the use of jelly-injected shrimp, shrimp fry, and the marketing of frozen food.
The meeting discussed the importance and potential of Bangladesh’s shrimp industry in the international market. The shrimp export sector is a source of foreign exchange earnings for a large part of the country. However, some unscrupulous traders have been using shrimp larvae and injecting jelly into shrimp in the hope of higher profits, which is seriously tarnishing the country’s image and posing a threat to the international export industry.
In addition, the processing and marketing of frozen food in unhygienic and unsafe environments poses serious health risks to consumers. Such practices not only threaten public health, but also question the country’s food security and the sustainability of the export sector.
Representatives from the Shrimp Traders Association of Rupsha and Khulna, Khulna Frozen Food Association, Department of Fisheries, Police, Naval Police, Forest Department, and local people were present at the meeting.
He also said that Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such public awareness activities in the future.
