On Monday, a large gathering of devotees gathered at the Jessore Ramakrishna Ashram and Mission to celebrate Kumari Puja and Sandhi Puja. The ashram premises were filled with the rituals of the puja.
The day’s rituals began with the Mahashtami Puja in the morning. The Kumari Puja was held at 9:30 am. This year, Sohani Pathak, the five-year-old daughter of Sohag Pathak and Mallika Pathak, residents of Bejpara area of Jessore and a play-class student, was worshipped as ‘Subhaga’ according to the scriptures.
After the Kumari Puja, devotees offer obeisances at the feet of the goddess. During this time, they pray for the well-being of their children, peace in the family, and the welfare of humanity.
On the other hand, a special Sandhi Puja is held according to religious rituals on the juncture of the eighth and ninth tithi. According to the Purush Siddhanta Panjika, the scheduled time for the 48-minute Sandhi Puja was from 10:58 am to 11:46 am on Monday, Bangladesh time. It is reported locally that in this puja, symbolic sacrifices are made with rice, sugarcane and ripe bananas as a symbol of the destruction of demonic forces.
According to the priests, according to Hindu mythology, on the confluence of the eighth and ninth days, Goddess Chamunda killed two demons named Chanda and Munda. Therefore, Sandhi Puja has special religious significance for the followers of Sanatan Dharma.
