Today, Wednesday (September 30) morning, a cleanliness campaign was conducted and leaflets were distributed at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. After distributing the leaflets, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Israt Jahan Keya said,
Since the incidence of dengue is high this year, we have given more importance to preventing it. Our cleanliness program is going on regularly and this cleanliness campaign is also going on every Saturday and other days across the district.
We have brought our Zilla Parishad office today, the hospitals we have besides this office, the hospital courtyards—especially the cleaning of the office premises—into the scope of cleanliness and their activities are going on. In addition, we are distributing leaflets to make the public aware, we are giving leaflets to everyone and we are working on the issue of not throwing garbage everywhere. We are giving this system a regular technical form and at least giving examples. The primary issue is that the drains that are there to drain the dirty water that accumulates in the water bodies and drains, the activities to clean the drains are going on.
And especially I would like to appeal to the public that what is really happening is that the government’s initiatives are there and it will be fruitful only when everyone works together. Everyone here is making the public aware so that everyone’s yard is clean, and we do not throw garbage in the drains and on the roads, but this is possible in many parts. And here the district administration is actually monitoring this issue very strongly, so that the shops that we have on the roadside, they also do not throw their garbage or things that they have, on the road, do not throw them into the drain. And this program will continue, it is not just for this time; dengue, which has increased for the first time, we must bring it under control, and we are also seeing to it that the cleaning program continues all the time.
We have also made a plan for mosquito control and in the areas where the number of dengue cases is a little high—especially in our municipality, Brahmanpara, then Velanagar, these places, here too we are giving the medicine that we have for this mosquito; as well as for larva control—meaning the medicine or larvicide that needs to be given to destroy the larvae, we are also being given here. Besides, what is actually happening, I will say that the instructions we have for the municipalities to be more than one, this process is now being carried out through strong monitoring and I hope that the dengue situation that we are seeing, if we all work together, then it will definitely come under our control. I will say a little more at this moment, that is, that we will monitor our government initiatives, so that they run well, but we specially request the public who are there—that they keep their house courtyards, the surrounding areas clean.
We have made plans here to improve the condition of the drain, the drainage system. Here, water is accumulating after the total rain, the conditions of the drains – we are bringing these into the cleaning activities. Present at the time were, Deputy Director of Local Government and Narsingdi Municipality Administrator Md. Shafiullah, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abu Taher Md. Shamsuzzaman, Chief Executive Officer of Narsingdi Municipality FM Naeem Hasan Shuvo, senior officials of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and officials and employees of the municipality.
