An upazila BNP leader has been accused of hoarding government rice in a godown in Raninagar, Naogaon. When the matter was reported to the administration, a raid was conducted and 18 sacks of government rice weighing 30 kg were seized.

On Wednesday, allegations were made that the rice was being stored in a godown next to the railway station fish market in Raninagar upazila. A Channel S Television representative recorded the incident and informed Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rakibul Hasan about the matter over the phone.

It is alleged that after informing the administration about the matter, the alleged leader threatened the journalist, Mamunur Rashid, and another person whose name is not known, and tried to forcibly delete the recorded video footage.

Later, on the instructions of the Upazila Executive Officer, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nabila Yasmin and Upazila Food Control Department Inspector Anisur Rahman went to the spot and conducted a raid on the godown. During this, 18 sacks of government rice weighing 30 kg were seized.

The administration said that the godown was locked during the raid. Later, the lock was broken and the rice was seized. However, no one was found in the godown at that time.

Raninagar Upazila Executive Officer Rakibul Hasan said on his mobile phone that the lock of the godown was broken and the rice was seized as it was closed. No one was found at the scene. Due to this, it was not possible to fine anyone immediately. Further legal action will be taken after verifying the matter.
