A human chain and protest rally have been held demanding the arrest of Murad Hossain and his accomplices involved in the terrorist attack on Touhidul Islam Talukder Lionar, Kalai Upazila correspondent of Daily Ittefaq and Daily Observer in Joypurhat district. The human chain and protest rally lasted for almost an hour under the banner of local journalists and civil society in front of the main gate of the Upazila Parishad on the Joypurhat-Bogra highway on Monday (September 28). Preparations for a case are underway at the police station regarding the attack.
The speakers at the human chain demanded that the perpetrators of the attack on journalist Touhidul Islam Talukder Lion, including Murad Hossain, son of Md. Nuhu Talukder of Kalai Talukderpara, be arrested within the next 24 hours and brought to justice. They also urged the administration to ensure the safety of journalists.
Joypurhat Press Club executive member and district correspondent of Daily Ajker Ataur Rahman presided over the human chain and protest rally. Tanvirul Islam Rigyan, vice-president of Joypurhat Press Club and district correspondent of Daily Bhorer Darpan, Taiful Islam Fita, principal of Kalai Technical and Business Management College, Amanuullah Talukder, lecturer of Matrai Model College, MAG Nafsi Talukder, assistant teacher of Kalai Moen Uddin Government High School, Principal Abdul Karim, correspondent of Daily Dinkal, ATM Selim Sarwar Shipon, correspondent of Daily Jugantor, Shaharul Alam, district correspondent of Daily Samakal and others spoke at the rally. The rally was attended by the district correspondent of Dainik Bangla newspaper Rabbiul Islam Rami, the multimedia district correspondent of Nayadiganta Rabiul Islam Akand, the correspondent of Dainik Kaler Kantho Saud Talukder, the correspondent of Dainik Amar Sangbad Roni Akand, the correspondent of Dainik Bangladesh Khabar Matlub Hossain, the correspondent of Dainik Janakantho Mokaram Hossain, the correspondent of Dainik Sangram Kalai Rejuwanul Haque, the journalist Russell Talukder, as well as local journalists and civil society members. According to sources, journalist Touhidul Islam Talukder Lionar went to Kalai Upazila Land Office on Sunday afternoon (September 27) to get news related information. At that time, when he went to the office of the Upazila Assistant Commissioner, he met local lawyer Nafiutzaman Talukar, Md. Nuhu Talukar and his Murad Hossain. Then journalist Touhidul Islam Talukder Lionar returned from there and several others including him were drinking tea near the land office. At that time, accused Murad Hossain skillfully called journalist Touhidul Islam Talukder Lionar and beat him severely. Later, locals rescued him in an injured state and took him to Kalai Upazila Health Complex.
