Locals have formed a human chain and staged a protest rally in protest against the murder case filed in court two months after the drowning of 2-year-old Md. Rohan in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur, claiming it to be ‘false and motivated’.
According to local residents and police sources, on July 19, 2026, Md. Rohan, the infant son of Md. Abbas of Ward No. 5 of Char Falkon Union, fell into the water and died. After the incident, the child’s family appeared at Kamalnagar Police Station and gave a written statement stating that there was no complaint against anyone in this regard and that the child died after falling into the water.
However, two months after the incident, on September 1, 2026, the child’s father, Md. Abbas, filed a CR case (No. CR/2026) in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Amli (Kamalnagar) against four people, including Jannat Begum (50), Md. Jamal (55), Md. Nihad (11) and Md. Jihad (18), of the same area, alleging murder by strangulation.
Meanwhile, since the filing of the case, there has been intense anger and dissatisfaction in the area. Local conscious residents organized a human chain to protest the social and social harassment of an innocent family by implicating them in a false case.
Speakers at the rally said the child’s death was a complete tragic accident. Although it was a death from falling into the water, a group deliberately filed a case two months later to gain personal gain.
Regarding the incident, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the concerned police station in Kamalnagar said, “Immediately after the incident, the child’s family came to the police station and gave a bond stating that it was a drowning death and that they had no complaint against anyone. But two months later, they filed a case in court.”
When contacted, Rasheda Akhter, the main witness in the case, denied the statement in the statement, saying, “I am not a witness to any such incident and I have not seen anything like it. The child died after falling into the water.”
When attempts were made to contact plaintiff Md. Abbas to get his statement regarding the false and harassing case, he evaded, saying he would tell him later, and refused to say anything further.
The residents of the area have immediately drawn the attention of the concerned administration to free the innocent people from this false and fabricated case and to uncover the truth through a proper investigation.
