The District Detective Branch (DB) arrested Shaon Amin in a case under the Cyber Security Act in Thakurgaon. He was later sent to the learned court along with the necessary documents after interrogation on Thursday (September 17).
According to DB sources, a Cyber Security Act case is under investigation in DB against Shaon Amin. The case number is 41/244, dated 24/07/2026. The case mentions Section 25(2)/27 of the Cyber Security Ordinance, 2025.
Besides, warrants are pending against Shaon Amin in 3 cybercrime cases at Atwari Police Station. There is a prosecution case filed by journalist Joy Mahanta Alok at Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station, which is under investigation. Meanwhile, there is a general diary (GD) against him in a police station in Dhaka regarding cybercrime. Besides, there are multiple allegations against him in Thakurgaon. Investigations have found information about his involvement in crimes while working on ships in Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong.
Various allegations against Shaon Amin came to light based on the interrogation of accused Kunjamohan Pal in a case under investigation by the DB and the information he provided. Kunjamohan Pal mentioned various information implicating Shaon Amin in his statement given under Section 164 in the learned court.
In his statement, Kunjamohan Pal claimed that Shaon Amin used to make him post offensive comments against various important people in exchange for money. He also accused him of posting obscene pictures of various people. It is mentioned in the statement that Shaon Amin used to pay him in exchange for these acts.
The statement also mentions that an obscene video of a girl was posted through Kunjmohan Pal on the instructions of Shaon Amin.
Kunjamohan Pal also claimed that Shaon Amin was the main admin of the ‘Thakurgaon Update’ Facebook page. When he wrote a post to Kunjamohan, Shaon Amin would publish it on that page. Even if videos were given, they would be posted on the page. It was also mentioned in the statement that these pictures and videos were created using AI technology.
Meanwhile, Shaon Amin has blackmailed various important people by posting these posts. Such allegations have also been received. All of these allegations are currently under investigation. The allegations against him are under investigation. At the same time, the DB police informed that an investigation is being conducted to find out who else is involved in these incidents and what their role is.
Earlier, various information and data were collected as well as various investigations and technologies were used to arrest Shaon Amin. At one stage, he was arrested on September 16, 2026, with the cooperation of Halishahar Police Station of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
After his arrest, he was brought to the Thakurgaon DB office for questioning on September 17, 2026. After the questioning, Shaon Amin was sent to the learned court along with the necessary documents.
Shaon Amin’s lawyer, Advocate Md. Imran Hossain Chowdhury, said that in the interest of investigating the allegations, the court has set a hearing date of September 21. An application for bail will be made on that day. On the other hand, the police have applied for a five-day remand. Whether it will be granted or not will be decided on the hearing date.
