A Bangladeshi national has been killed in BSF firing on the Bangladesh-India border again at Radhikapur in Kaliaganj of North Dinajpur and Pirganj in Thakurgaon. Two more people were seriously injured in the incident and the Indian police have arrested both the injured on charges of illegal infiltration. The incident took place around 5 am on Saturday (September 12) near the border pillar 333-MP in the area under the responsibility of Chanderhat BOP of the upazila. A Bangladeshi national has been killed in BSF firing on the Bangladesh-India border again at Radhikapur in Kaliaganj of North Dinajpur and Pirganj in Thakurgaon. Two more people were seriously injured in the incident and the Indian police have arrested both the injured on charges of illegal infiltration.
The incident took place around 5 am on Saturday (September 12) near the border pillar 333-MP in the area under the responsibility of Chanderhat BOP of the upazila.
Sources said that some Bangladeshis tried to infiltrate into India through the Bhabanipur border of Bairchuna union of Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon on Saturday morning. A patrol party of BSF camp 63 Chowk Shivananda of Uttar Dinajpur, India, opened fire on them near the 333/MP border pillar of Chanderhat BOP of Pirganj upazila of the district. Asaduzzaman (33) of Dakshin Indrail village of Pirganj and Mostakim (32) and Shri Usha (seriously injured) of Uttar Indrail village of Pirganj were shot.
The BSF rescued the injured and took them to Kaliaganj General Hospital in India, where the on-duty doctor declared Asaduzzaman dead and the injured Mostakim and Sri Usha were given necessary treatment. The autopsy of Asaduzzaman’s body was completed at Raiganj Medical College Hospital on Saturday afternoon.
The two Bangladeshi nationals injured in the incident have been arrested by Kaliaganj Police Station on charges of trespassing and sent to Raiganj District Court. A case has been registered against them under the Indian Passport Act related to trespassing.
In the context of border tension, an emergency flag meeting was held between BGB (42nd Battalion) and BSF at Bhawanipur border area of Pirganj Bairchuna Union in Thakurgaon on Sunday morning at 11:30 am. However, this morning meeting was not fruitful. According to BGB sources, the bodies of the deceased may be returned to Bangladesh this evening after completing the formal process.
Abdullah Al Moin, CEO of 42 BGB, said, “We called for a flag meeting after learning about the matter from various sources. An emergency flag meeting was held on Sunday morning. There is a possibility that the body of the deceased will be handed over on Sunday evening.”
