The traditional boat race competition-2026 was held in a festive atmosphere on the banks of the Titas River in Brahmanbaria. On Saturday (September 12) afternoon, thousands of people gathered on both banks of the river to watch this boat race organized by the Brahmanbaria district administration. People of all ages gathered on both banks of the Titas since morning to watch this traditional event of present-day Bengal.
Competitors from nine upazilas of the district participated in this race with boats. The sight of the competing boats racing on the banks of the Titas River created great enthusiasm among the spectators. During the competition, the entire area on both banks of the river became filled with applause, cheers and shouts of the spectators. The sound of drums and drums and the festive atmosphere seemed to bring the Titas River back to life.
At the end of the day-long competition, the boat team of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila achieved the glory of becoming the champion. Prizes were also distributed among the teams that secured the second and third places.
The first place boat team in the competition was awarded 2 lakh taka, the second place team was awarded 1.5 lakh taka and the third place team was awarded 1 lakh taka. Later, the guests handed over the trophies and prize money to the winning teams.
There was great joy and excitement among the audience when the winning boat team of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila received the prize. The venue was filled with the joy of the members and supporters of the champion team.
The chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony was Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-3 constituency and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce.
The special guests were District Council Administrator Sirajul Islam, Police Superintendent Shah Md. Abdur Rouf, Members of Parliament Nadia Rahman Papon, Zahirul Haque Khokon, Ali Azam, Hafizur Rahman Molla Kochi, Mobarak Hossain, Asaduzzaman Shahin and Brahmanbaria Municipal Administrator Shariful Islam, along with political, social and administrative figures from various levels of the district.
The event was presided over by the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Brahmanbaria, Md. Abshar.
The leaders and activists of various organs and associate organizations of the district BNP provided overall support to complete the boat race successfully and smoothly. In addition, members of various social and voluntary organizations including Brahmanbaria Red Crescent Society, social organizations Dheu, Nongor, Tori, and Oikayabuddha Brahmanbaria participated in the cooperation.
Members of the law enforcement agencies played a special role in maintaining security and order during the boat race. Security measures were strengthened on the Titas River and both banks of the river. In addition, members of the fire service were also ready to deal with any kind of accident. With the coordinated cooperation of the administration, law enforcement agencies, and voluntary organizations, the competition was declared over in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.
Since morning, the gathering of people on both banks of the Titas River started increasing. Some came with their families, some with friends, and some came from far and wide to enjoy the boat race. With people of all ages, from children to the elderly, the two banks of the Titas River seem to turn into a huge gathering.
According to the organizers, boat racing is an important part of the thousand-year-old folk culture and tradition of Bengal. This event has been organized with the aim of preserving this tradition of rural culture in the era of modernity and showcasing the culture of Bengal to the new generation.
After the day-long competition and prize distribution, a festive atmosphere prevailed on both banks of the Titas River until the evening. The Brahmanbaria Traditional Boat Racing Competition-2026 ended with the excitement of thousands of people, the fast speed of the competing boats and the joy of the winners.
