The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a person named Swarati Rani alias Dukh (45) in a case filed in connection with the recovery of the body of a girl named Bithi Rani (6) from a water hole in a tube well next to her house, 8 hours after she went missing in Uttar Kumarpur, Kurigram. The arrested Swarati Rani is the wife of Rabi Nath Chandra of Uttar Kumarpur village.

According to the case report, on September 7, 2026, around 12:00 noon, Bithi Rani was sleeping with her mother at her house. When she woke up at around 2:30 pm, her mother did not see Bithi next to her. Later, after searching in various places, Bithi Rani could not find any trace of her. At around 6:30 pm, Bithi Rani’s father filed a missing person’s report at Kurigram Sadar Police Station. On his way home from the police station, he received news that his daughter was lying dead in the dirty water canal of the tube well behind the house of Nado Hossain in Majhipara village of Bhogdanga Union. Upon receiving the news, the police station and police reached the spot, recovered Bithi’s body and prepared an autopsy report. Victim Bithi had injury marks on her right ear and left side of her neck.

In this incident, the deceased’s father, Amal Chandra, filed a murder case (Case No. 11) against unknown accused at Kurigram Police Station on September 8, 2026.

Considering the importance of the case, RAB-13 intensified intelligence surveillance to arrest the accused. In continuation of this, based on specific intelligence information, an operation team of Sadar Company, RAB-13, Rangpur conducted a raid at the house of Shri Rabi Nath Chandra Biswas in Uttar Kumarpur (Majipara) village of Bhogdanga Union under Kurigram Sadar Police Station on 09 September 2026 at 11.50 pm and arrested the accused Swarati Rani alias Dukh (45) found in the investigation of the controversial Bithi Rani murder case.

The arrested accused has been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
