Stolen mobile phone recovered through arbitration in Kotalipara, multiple allegations against two brothers

A stolen mobile phone has been recovered by local arbitrators in Bahlatoli village of Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj and handed over to the family of the real owner.

Various allegations including theft, drug dealing and consumption have come to light against two local brothers, Shaon Sikder and Amit Sikder, in connection with this incident. However, Shaon Sikder has denied these allegations.

The arbitration meeting was held at the intersection of three roads next to Bahlatoli Government Primary School until Friday night. The meeting was presided over by the area’s elder Md. Mahabub Sikder and conducted by A.H. Sikder.

After the mystery of the mobile phone theft was revealed in the arbitration meeting, there was a sensation in the area.

When the locals went to Bahlatoligram on Monday morning, apart from mobile theft, they brought up various immoral activities.

The people present at the arbitration claimed that on the night of August 3, a Realme brand mobile phone belonging to Prasenjit Sen of Rupahati village was stolen from a fish pond in Nunia Gopalpur village of neighboring Tungipara upazila. It was alleged that Amit Sikder of Bahlatoli village took the mobile phone and went to a house in Narsinghpur village of Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat to sell it.

When the locals became suspicious, the mobile phone was seized and given to Bablu Sikder. Later, Bablu Sikder submitted the mobile phone to the elders of Bahlatoli village, the people present at the arbitration said.

Then, the local arbitrators verified the documents for purchasing the mobile phone. After reviewing the documents, it was confirmed that the Realme brand mobile phone belonged to Prasenjit Sen, and it was handed over to his guardians.

Several other past incidents surrounding Shaon Sikder and Amit Sikder were alleged in the statements of the locals present at the arbitration meeting.  Locals claim that earlier, Shaon Shikder and his brother Amit Shikder were accused of stealing shrimp from Riaz Shikder’s fishing net. Riaz Shikder claimed that they were tried in the presence of the then Pinjuri Union Parishad Chairman Mahmud Shikder in this incident.

Riaz Shikder said that in 2007, Shaon and Amit stole shrimp worth about one lakh taka from his net. Later, they were fined five thousand taka and physically punished in the presence of Chairman Mahmud Shikder and locals.

In addition, locals claim that a few days ago, in the case of stealing a motor from Bahlatoli Government Primary School, Amit Shikder was brought to Dhaka during the sale period and tried in front of the locals on the school grounds. Locals said that this trial was conducted by Nasiruddin Shikder Mukta.

Nasiruddin Shikder Mukta said, “They have also been tried several times in the area on charges of drug trafficking and consumption.”

Some of those present at the arbitration also alleged that Shaon and Amit are regularly involved in drug use and drug dealing. They also alleged that their activities are destroying the environment of the area and harming the youth. However, it could not be confirmed that any legal documents or case information was presented in the arbitration to support these allegations.

Meanwhile, former police SI Chiruddin Sikder alleged that Shaon Sikder tried to extort money from innocent local people by using the identity of a journalist. He even alleged that he committed a crime like defamation under the Cyber ​​Crime Act by publishing pictures of their family home on social media.

However, Shaon Sikder directly denied these allegations. Regarding the allegation of mobile theft against Amit Sikder, he said, “We had an issue with Prosenjit. We were the ones conducting this courtship. The courtship was held while the mobile was being confiscated. Anyway, their mobile was returned to them. However, it is not theft, maybe someone misinterpreted or said it.”

When asked about the allegations of shrimp theft from Riaz Sikder’s enclosure, Shaon said, “I asked Riaz Sikder. I don’t know if those who allegedly made the arbitration are the right people to make arbitration in Bahlatoli. This is false and fabricated. Those who made the arbitration are the biggest criminals in Bahlatoli.”

On the other hand, the chairman of the arbitration meeting, Mahbub Sikder, said, “Amit Sikder’s father, Nanna Sikder, asked to return the mobile. We, the arbitrators, verified the documents of the mobile and returned it to the real owner.”
