Locals in Palashbari, Gaibandha, have formed a human chain and held a protest rally demanding an end to drug consumption and sale and the arrest of drug dealers. A two-hour human chain and protest rally was held at the intersection of Fakirhat 4 roads on Friday (September 4) afternoon at the initiative of people from all walks of life in Pabnapur Union of the upazila. A two-hour human chain and protest rally was held at the intersection of Fakirhat 4 roads on Friday (September 4) afternoon at the initiative of people from all walks of life in Pabnapur Union of the upazila.
Hundreds of people from different walks of life participated in the human chain.
Md. Azizar Rahman, Pabnapur Union BNP President Saiful Islam, Fakirhat Medinatul Qaumi Madrasa Director Hafez Maulana Md. Rafiqul Islam, Fakirhat Bi-Mukhi High School Acting Principal Shahidul Islam, journalist Asaduzzaman Rubel, Yuba Jamaat leader A.S. Sabur, MGS Mukta Mandal, and others spoke at the event.
Speakers at the human chain complained that drug trafficking has recently taken a terrible shape in Pabnapur and Manoharpur unions. The number of drug users is increasing at an alarming rate. Despite repeated complaints to the local administration, no remedy is being found. Various crimes including theft and robbery are on the rise.
