Police have recovered the hanging body of a policeman named Nayek Habibur Rahman (33) from the barracks of the official residence of the Gaibandha Police Superintendent. Initially, the police said that he committed suicide by leaving his wife on a video call due to a family dispute.
His body was recovered from the washroom of the police superintendent’s bungalow barracks on Wednesday (August 26) afternoon.
Gaibandha Additional Superintendent of Police Sharif Al Rajib confirmed the matter last night.
The deceased, Habibur Rahman, is the son of Montu Mia of Sardarpara area of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila. He was transferred from Dhaka on August 12 and joined the bungalow of the Gaibandha Police Superintendent as a guard.
Police said that in the afternoon, colleagues became suspicious after seeing the door of the barracks’ washroom closed for a long time. Guard Commander Sohel Mia knocked several times but received no response, so he broke the door with others and entered. There, they found Habibur Rahman hanging from a rod with a towel wrapped around his neck. He was later recovered dead.
The body was later sent to the morgue of Gaibandha General Hospital for an autopsy.
