A young man named Al Mahmud Achab has been accused of filing a false case by staging a kidnapping drama to escape from owed money in Badalgachhi, Naogaon. A young man named Al Mahmud Achab has been accused of filing a false case by staging a kidnapping drama to escape from owed money in Badalgachhi, Naogaon.
The accused youth, Al Mahmud, is the son of the deceased Ismail Hossain of Haludbihar village in Bilashbari union of Achab upazila.
According to local sources, Al Mahmud Achab (42) used to run an NGO in the area. Recently, he faced a huge financial crisis due to a huge loss in his business. To overcome this crisis, he borrowed a total of 13 lakh taka in various installments from his sister-in-law’s younger brother, Chanowar Hossain.
Even after taking the money, Achab was unable to pay it back even after a long time. When Chanowar Hossain asked for the money back, Achab kept stalling. Despite being given time several times, he kept refusing to pay. At one point, he approached Chanowar Hossain’s court to collect the money. To escape the case and put pressure on the creditor, Achab himself went into hiding and staged a thrilling fake kidnapping drama.
The news of Achab’s sudden disappearance and kidnapping spread panic among the family. However, later investigations revealed that he had fabricated the kidnapping story to escape from debt. After the false kidnapping was exposed, tension arose between the two parties, and Achab’s elder sister Nazma Begum came forward. With her sincere efforts and family mediation, an arbitration meeting was held between both parties. At the meeting, Achab admitted his mistake and both parties reached an agreement to pay the money owed within 45 days.

This incident created a sensation in the area. However, the matter was finally resolved peacefully through family mediation. But even then, to pressure the creditor into not paying the money owed, Achab filed a false kidnapping case in the court. In this case, the creditor, Chanowar Hossain, was arrested by the police and sent to jail. This created a lot of discussion and criticism in the area.
Nasima Akhter, the wife of the creditor, Chanowar Hossain, said, “Since he is our relative, when my husband retired from the army and received pension money, the NGO first took five lakh taka as needed. After a few days, they took another eight lakh taka by tempting him to send him to Italy. But he could not send him to Italy, and now he is not paying the money he owes. Then he again staged a false case of kidnapping, and my husband is now in jail in that case. What could be more sad than this? I will request the court to grant bail to my husband and arrange for the return of the money I owe.”
Liton Hossain, general secretary of the Kola Bazar Banik Samiti, said that Chanowar actually received money from that young man named Achab. This has been happening for a long time. And to recover the money owed, he filed a case in court. But instead of paying the money, Achab has now filed a kidnapping case and I hear the creditor is in jail. This is extremely unfair.
Accused Al Mahmud Achab said, “I am not interested in talking about this over the phone, we will talk in person.” When asked how many lakhs of rupees did you take from Chanowar Hossain, he hung up the call.
Shahin, SI of Naogaon Sadar Police Station and the investigating officer of the kidnapping case, said that the investigation into the case is ongoing.
