Students of Punat High School in Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat have protested by locking the school gate, demanding the immediate arrest and trial of those involved in the attack on the principal. They later submitted a written complaint to the Upazila Executive Officer demanding the arrest of the attackers and a fair trial of the incident.
On Thursday, August 20, around 11 am, students started a protest by locking the main gate of Punat High School in Kalai Upazila. At that time, they demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack on the headmaster and legal action. Earlier, on the morning of August 19, there were allegations of entering the school’s headmaster’s room and attacking him, using abusive language, and misbehaving with some female teachers of the school. After the incident, the students’ written complaint to the Upazila Executive Officer said that regardless of their political or social identity, the attackers should be brought under the law and necessary action should be taken. The students further said in the complaint that if the accused are not arrested within the next 24 hours and a fair trial of the incident is not ensured, they will be forced to boycott classes. Meanwhile, a copy of the complaint has also been given to the Upazila Secondary Education Officer and the Officer-in-Charge of Kalai Police Station. In this regard, Kalai Upazila Executive Officer Faisal Ahmed said that a complaint has been received from the students. Legal action will be taken after a prompt investigation.
