It has been announced that Nilphamari Sadar Upazila will be
made an upazila free from child marriage, child labor and school dropouts. The announcement
was made on Monday afternoon (August 17) in the presence of government officials, public
representatives, religious leaders, marriage registrars and representatives from various
professions.
Upazila Executive Officer Mubashir Amatullah was the chief guest. In the conference room of
Sadar Upazila Administration, World Vision Bangladesh Nilphamari Area Development Program
Coordination Office Senior Manager Anukul Chandra Barman presided over the event. Sadar
Upazila Education Officer ATM Nurul Amin Shah, Upazila Chairman Association President Alhaj
Abdur Rouf Chowdhury, Kukhapara High School Teacher Ataur Rahman, Journalist Nur Alam,
Notkhana Jame Mosque Imam Ramzan Ali spoke at the event. World Vision Teesta Shishu
Forum President Jhuma Akhter and Vice President Kabir Hachan Sohag moderated the event.
At the announcement ceremony, Tahmidur Rahman, Technical Specialist of the organizing
organization – Lovelyhoods, presented the activities carried out to create an upazila free from
child marriage, child labor, and school dropouts.
It was informed that conducting survey activities, awareness-raising activities, restructuring the
Union Parishad Standing Committee, and forming a vigilance team were part of the
commitment declaration activities.
Anukul Chandra Barman, Senior Manager of World Vision Bangladesh Nilphamari Area
Development Program Coordination Office, said, "We have stopped 16 child marriages and sent
54 children to school."
He said, "We want no more child marriages in this upazila, no child to be deprived of school. For
this, everyone has to work actively from today." Ananya Das, who prevented her own child
marriage, and Nixon Islam, who dropped out and returned to school, shared their experiences.
In his speech as the chief guest, Upazila Executive Officer Mubashir Amatullah said, "We all
know about the ill effects of child marriage, child labor, and dropout. If awareness is created in
the family, child marriage, child labor, or dropout can be prevented. Today, we pledge to bring
Nilphamari Sadar Upazila to zero quota."
The announcement ceremony was organized by World Vision Bangladesh Nilphamari and in
collaboration with the upazila administration. The guests and invitees said that the activities
that World Vision Bangladesh has continued are satisfactory. However, even if this private
organization is no more, we will supervise the activities they have left behind.
