Oil trader jailed and fined Tk 1 lakh in Brahmanbaria Jagat Bazar

As part of the Brahmanbaria district administration’s market monitoring activities, a mobile court was conducted in Jagat Bazar of the district on Tuesday (July 21). An oil trader who was previously convicted in the operation was again fined Tk 1 lakh and sentenced to 1 month’s imprisonment for selling less oil.
According to district administration sources, the trader was fined Tk 40,000 on June 1, 2026, for selling less oil than the quantity displayed. At the same time, he was strictly instructed not to sell that oil.
However, during the re-operation on Tuesday, the same type of oil was found in his establishment. Measurements showed that there was a shortage of about 50 to 100 milliliters per liter of oil.
The mobile court imposed a fine of 1 lakh taka and 1 month’s imprisonment on the trader under Section 19(1)(h) of the Agricultural Marketing Act, 2018 for committing the same offence again despite being warned and punished earlier.
The District Agricultural Marketing Officer prosecuted the case during the operation.
The district administration said that such market monitoring and mobile court operations will continue regularly to protect the interests of consumers, ensure fair sale of products and prevent irregularities in the market.
