Law Minister inaugurates mandatory pre-litigation mediation program from Thakurgaon
A mandatory pre-case mediation program has been launched in Thakurgaon to resolve certain types of civil disputes before filing a case in court. On Tuesday (July 21), Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament Md. Asaduzzaman inaugurated the program by joining the program virtually at the conference room of the Thakurgaon District and Sessions Judge's Court. A mandatory pre-case mediation program has been launched in Thakurgaon to resolve certain types of civil disputes before filing a case in court.
On Tuesday (July 21), Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament Md. Asaduzzaman inaugurated the program by joining the program virtually at the conference room of the Thakurgaon District and Sessions Judge’s Court.
The program, organized by Thakurgaon District Legal Aid Office, was presided over by District and Sessions Judge and District Legal Aid Committee Chairman Jamal Hossain.
It was informed at the event that mandatory pre-litigation mediation has been initially introduced in 10 districts of the country, including Thakurgaon, under Section 21(b) of the Legal Aid (Amendment) Act, 2026.
In his speech as the chief guest, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman said that if there is an opportunity to resolve disputes through discussion before filing a case in court, it will reduce the time, money and suffering of litigants. At the same time, the tendency to file new cases in the court will decrease, reducing the pressure on the judiciary.
The Law Minister said that mandatory pre-trial mediation will be introduced in all districts of the country in phases within the next six months. He sought the cooperation of judges, lawyers, concerned officials, litigants and media personnel to make this initiative a success.
District Legal Aid Officer (Senior Civil Judge) Majnu Mia said, “The mandatory pre-litigation mediation program is a timely initiative for litigants. It will create an opportunity to resolve disputes through discussion before the case is taken to court. This will save time and money as well as reduce the pressure of court cases.”
Chief Judicial Magistrate Lutfar Rahman, Land Survey Tribunal Judge Md. Rafiqul Bari, Joint District and Sessions Judge Sadia Afrina Rima, Senior Assistant Judge (Chairman) Subrata Mallick, Judicial Magistrate Tahmidur Rahman, Civil Judge Mahmudul Islam Munna, District Bar Association President Advocate Md. Yusuf Ali, General Secretary Advocate Sheikh Farid, members of the Legal Aid Committee and media personnel were present at the event.
