The memorial service for the former teacher of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), freedom fighter Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus, was held today, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Shaheed Dr. Milon Hall. The speakers at the memorial service recalled the great proclaimer of independence, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, and the uncompromising leader of the struggle to protect democracy, patriot, former Prime Minister Late Begum Khaleda Zia and said that the freedom fighter Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus was a struggling man with an honest, brave, fearless and uncompromising personality. In the current context, the life philosophy of the freedom fighter Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus will forever be an example to follow and emulate for the people of Bangladesh to uphold the spirit of the great liberation war and move Bangladesh forward. The chief guest of the memorial meeting was the Honorable Minister of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, MP. In his speech as the chief guest, Honorable Minister of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, MP said, the heroic freedom fighter Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus was a morally strong man. He was a popular doctor and a beloved person to the people of his area. He believed in the ideals of the great proclaimer of independence, martyr President Ziaur Rahman until his death. He was a perpetually fighting leader on the streets. Honorable Minister Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, MP said, the liberation war, independence does not come again and again. Independence comes only once. Nothing compares to the great independence of Bangladesh. Today, we have got the opportunity to be established in big places because the great freedom fighters liberated the country, inspired by the declaration of independence by martyr President Ziaur Rahman. However, each of these historical events, such as the 1969 mass uprising, the 1990 mass uprising, and the 24th of July mass uprising, is significant and shines with its own glory in the context of that time. In his speech, the Honorable Minister strongly urged Bangladesh Medical University to ensure world-class medical services to patients as the best medical service institution in the country. In his speech as a special guest, Honorable Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, MP, said, I jumped into the battlefield of the Liberation War inspired by the declaration of the independence proclaimer, martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Our current generation must remember that if we fail to grasp the spirit of the great Liberation War, if we forget the spirit of the Liberation War, the country’s independence and sovereignty will be lost. The brutal torture and torture that the terrible army of Pakistan, along with the Razakars of this country, committed on that day (1971) should not be forgotten. The Rajkars would capture the freedom fighters and hand them over to the Pakistani army. They have damaged the honor of the mothers and sisters of this country. They have burned down village after village of Hindus. They have brutally tortured women with bayonets. Let us not forget that. The late brave freedom fighter Professor Dr. Mentioning the contribution of Md. Abdul Quddus, he said, “The history of the great Liberation War must be remembered. The 31-point plan announced by Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman must be implemented by preserving the spirit of the great Liberation War and protecting the independence and sovereignty of this country.” In his speech as a special guest, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui said, the heroic freedom fighter Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus was a lively person and he took everything positively. He was a philanthropist. Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus made an outstanding contribution in the treatment of BNP’s former Prime Minister Late Begum Khaleda Zia. It is worth mentioning that the former teacher of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), the heroic freedom fighter Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus, passed away on April 25, 2026. Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus was a renowned ophthalmologist in his professional life. He taught with great reputation in the Department of Ophthalmology of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU). In addition to teaching, he also served as the Deputy Superintendent in the institution. In addition to serving the common people through the medical profession, he made a heroic contribution to protecting the independence and sovereignty of the country. In his political life, he was associated with BNP politics for a long time.
