Keeping in mind the motto ‘Bangladesh is my pride’, the elite force Rapid Action Battalion has been conducting regular operations against all serious social crimes including sensational murders, kidnappings, rapes, extortions. In cases of serious crimes like murder, RAB performs its duties with utmost professionalism.

RAB arrested two accused from Joypurhat and Gaibandha yesterday (July 14) in connection with the brutal murder of a farmer named Mofizar Rahman while stealing a transformer for an irrigation pump of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) in Pirganj, Rangpur. The arrested are Md. Golam Rabbani (28) of Joypurhat and Shahidul Islam (54) of Gaibandha.

The complaint filed by the victim’s brother reveals that a deep tube well of BADC has been installed on the land of farmer Mofizar Rahman of Umarpur village of Baro Alampur union of Pirganj upazila. As the irrigation of the rainy season was over, he used to guard the BADC irrigation transformer in his irrigation house every night like every day. On the morning of May 7, 2026, the victim’s neighbor Shahidul Islam informed the victim’s family about the theft of the transformer through his mobile phone. The victim’s family members went to the spot and found the door of the irrigation house locked from outside and the bloody and frozen body of farmer Mofizar with his hands and feet tied was recovered from the irrigation house. When the miscreants were stealing the transformer of the irrigation pump, farmer Mofizar Rahman stopped him, killed him and stole the transformer and fled.

Manuar Hossain, the brother of farmer Mofizar Rahman, who was killed in the incident, filed a murder case against unknown accused at Pirganj Police Station in Rangpur on May 7, 2026.

Considering the importance of the case, RAB-13 intensified intelligence surveillance to arrest the accused. In continuation of this, a joint operation team of CPSC, RAB-13, Rangpur and CPC-3, RAB-05, Joypurhat conducted a raid in Ratanpur (Raipur) village under Panchbibi police station of Joypurhat district at 03.30 pm on July 14, 2026 and was able to arrest Md. Golam Rabbani (28), father- deceased Abdul Wahab, resident of Satana Ali Hat, police station- Panchbibi, district- Joypurhat, accused in the transformer theft case by killing a farmer of Pirganj police station of Rangpur district.

On the same day, a team of CPSC, RAB-13, Rangpur conducted a raid at Jundah Bazar under Palashbari Police Station in Gaibandha district at 8:30 pm and arrested the accused Shahidul Islam (54), father- Mofiz Uddin Sheikh, resident- Purandar, Police Station- Gobindaganj, District- Gaibandha, who was found in front of a grocery shop of one Harun Mia during the investigation of the case.

The arrested accused have been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action. Besides, RAB’s regular operations will continue to curb serious crimes like murder, kidnapping, and rape from the society.
