Severe waterlogging has occurred in Narsingdi city due to continuous heavy rains over the past few days. The District Judge Court premises, the Deputy Commissioner’s office, schools, college premises and the main roads of the city have been submerged in rain water, disrupting public life.
1. Condition of the court and the Deputy Commissioner’s premises:
It was seen on the ground that the entire premises in front of the Narsingdi District Judge’s Court are knee-deep in water. Trial seekers, lawyers and court employees have to wade through water to enter the court. The proceedings of the case are being disrupted as many clients and witnesses are unable to appear on time due to the water.

The same situation is also in the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.  Starting from the main gate of the DC office, waterlogging has formed in front of various departments. The common people and officials and employees who come to avail services are facing extreme hardship. Daily activities are being disrupted due to waterlogging.
2. Picture of the city’s roads:
The main roads of the Court Road, Sadar Road, Bus Stand, Toroa, Baniachol, and Bouyakud areas of Narsingdi city have been submerged under 1 to 2 feet of water. The water is not draining due to the ineffective drainage system. Rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and small vehicles have stopped plying. Water has entered the ground floors of many shops and houses, destroying the goods of traders and residents.

3. Causes of suffering and public suffering:
According to local residents, unplanned drainage system, not cleaning the drains regularly, and filling of canals and bilges are the main reasons for this waterlogging. This picture of the city is seen even after a little rain.

A lawyer said, “We have to wade through knee-deep water to get to the court. The files are getting wet. Urgent hearings are also being postponed.” A businessman said, “There is knee-deep water in the shop. We are exhausted from moving goods.” School and college students are also in trouble.

4. Authority’s statement:
An official of Narsingdi Municipality said, “Water has accumulated due to heavy rain. Work is underway to clean the drains. Urgent measures are being taken to deal with the situation.

To get permanent relief from waterlogging, the city residents have demanded immediate renovation of the drainage system and planned urbanization.
