RAB carries out its duties with utmost professionalism in cases of serious social crimes like murders.
RAB arrested two friends, Md. Shakib Mia (18) and Md. Rifad Mia (16), from Dhaka last night in connection with the murder of a teenager named Raihan Prodhan (16) by drowning him in water in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila.
The complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Md. Maqbul Hossain, reveals that the deceased Raihan and the two accused friends mentioned in the complaint. On the afternoon of June 16, 2026, two teenagers named in the complaint called the victim Raihan from his house. They all went to bathe in the Harinsingha pond at the same time. At one stage of the bath, an argument started between them over a trivial matter. They beat Raihan and kept him in the water. At one stage, when the victim Raihan fell unconscious, they left Raihan on the bank of the pond and left.
Hira Mia, a neighbor of the plaintiff Maqbul Hossain, found the victim Raihan unconscious and brought him to the street and took him to Gaibandha General Hospital in an auto-rickshaw, where the doctor on duty declared the victim Raihan dead. The family members of the two teenagers in the case brought the body of the deceased Raihan to their house and fled, leaving the body there.
After this brutal incident, deceased Raihan’s father Maqbul Hossain filed a murder case against the two accused teenagers at Gaibandha Sadar Police Station on June 19, 2026 (Case No. 44). After the incident, they left the area and went into hiding. Considering the importance of the case, RAB-13 intensified detective surveillance to arrest the accused. In continuation of this, on July 11, 2026, at approximately 10.20 pm, Md. Sakib Mia (18), father of Md. Jawan Ali, the accused in the case of drowning a friend in Gaibandha district, were arrested from Nikunja residential area under Khilkhet Police Station in Dhaka, and Md. Rifad Mia (16), father of Md. Saidul Islam, were arrested from in front of Center Point Shopping Mall under Airport Police Station in Dhaka at approximately 11.00 pm.
The arrested persons have been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action. Besides, RAB’s regular operations to curb serious crimes like murder, kidnapping, and rape from the society will continue.
