As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign to protect the society from the menace of drugs, a special operation by Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station has recovered 1,000 pieces of intoxicating Tapentadol tablets. Police have arrested a person named Md. Sumon alias Jhalai Sumon (40) in this incident. As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign to protect the society from the menace of drugs, a special operation by Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station has recovered 1,000 pieces of intoxicating Tapentadol tablets. Police have arrested a person named Md. Sumon alias Jhalai Sumon (40) in this incident.
According to police sources, on July 6, 2026, at approximately 11:10 pm, an anti-drug operation and warrant Tamil operation was conducted on the basis of GD No. 332 of Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station. Under the leadership of SI (Retd) Md. Mazharul Alam, ASI (Retd) Saad Salman Hossain, ASI (Retd) Md. Jobaidul, ASI Md. Shakib, ASI Sarwar Jahan and other police members conducted an operation in Dhangi Pukur village of Bariya Union No. 13 of Sadar Upazila.
During the operation, Md. Sumon alias Jhalai Sumon was arrested while suspiciously standing on the paved road in front of Noor Alam’s grocery store. Later, a red plastic shopping bag in his hand was searched and 1,000 pieces of orange-colored narcotic Tapentadol tablets were recovered from inside a shopping bag.
The recovered tablets are labeled Tapentadol Tablets 100 mg and Manufactured in India by SUN Pharma Laboratories Limited, according to police.
The father of the arrested Md. Sumon is the deceased Taibul Islam. His permanent address is Shapla Bari (next to the big mosque) of Birganj police station in Dinajpur district. He was currently living in Chongakhata area of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
In this incident, case No. 15/218, dated July 7, 2026, has been registered at Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station under Section 29(a)/41 of Table 36(1) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
Police said that another person is absconding on charges of involvement in the recovered narcotics in the incident. In addition, 4/5 unknown persons have been accused to identify other people involved in the incident. Police investigation is continuing to arrest the absconding accused and reveal the identities of the unknown accused. After the investigation, legal action will be taken against everyone involved in the incident, the police said.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Md. Shajahan Ali said,

Strict enforcement of the law against individuals or organized groups involved in drug trade, transportation and storage will continue.
