While everyone survived while removing the tree, ashram worker Asim Ballav (27) lost his life after failing to move at the last moment. This tragic accident happened in a matter of seconds.

The accident occurred at Sri Sri Narottam Brajabasi Seva Ashram located in Pakharpar village of Sadullapur union of Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj at around 3 pm on Sunday (July 5).

The deceased Asim is the son of the deceased Jiban Ballav of Purba Bakal village of Agailjhara upazila of Barisal.

According to eyewitnesses and hospital sources, some trees were being cut down in the ashram premises. After cutting down a big tree, four people were carrying it on their shoulders. To reach the designated place, everyone tried to take down the tree together by calling ‘one-to-three’.  At this time, the three people in front were able to quickly move away, but Asim could not move himself in time. As a result, he fell to the ground due to the strong impact of the tree and suffered serious head injuries.

Swapan Das, another servant of the ashram, and the locals quickly rescued him and took him to the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Upon receiving the news, Subir Kumar, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kotalipara Police Station, reached the hospital and prepared a post-mortem report on the body. He said that after the necessary legal procedures, the body will be sent to the Gopalganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Preparations are underway to file an accidental death case in this regard.

This sudden accident has cast a shadow of grief over the ashram. There is an atmosphere of deep grief and pain among the devotees, servants and locals.
