Urging journalists to provide objective and impartial news, Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Journalists will call white white and black black. One of the most important responsibilities of journalism is to point out the mistakes and errors of politicians and show them the right path.” He also said, “The stronger the media of a country, the stronger the democracy of that country. He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a greeting exchange program with the newly elected committee of Thakurgaon Press Club at the Anisul Haque Auditorium of Thakurgaon Press Club on Friday (July 3) afternoon. Earlier, on Friday morning, he inspected the chicken farm, irrigation pump, and fish farm using solar panels at Soleman Ali’s own residence located in Malani, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
At this time, he said, “While we are busy throwing mud in politics, some people are doing unprecedented work in secret. Our Thakurgaon’s Soleman Ali is one such person. After working hard for many years, he invented solar irrigation pumps. Such people should be given national awards. We will think about this.”
Mirza Alamgir said, “Politicians are not above criticism. Mistakes can be made while working to meet the expectations of the people, and it is the responsibility of the media to highlight those mistakes and ensure accountability. Many times, journalists are attacked and harassed for publishing truthful news, which is very worrying.”
Referring to the government’s election promise, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Two new upazilas have been approved in Thakurgaon and activities related to them have already started. However, it is not enough to just build infrastructure, but in addition to developing skilled and honest leadership, everyone must play a responsible role in managing the new upazilas, and all the youth and youth must develop themselves as entrepreneurs and innovators like Soleiman Ali for the benefit of themselves and the country.”
