Yesterday, Saturday, July 7, 2026, the capping ceremony of the 15th batch of BSC in Nursing and the freshmen of the fourth batch of MSc in Nursing were celebrated at the A Block Auditorium of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU). The notable parts of the program were the performance of the national anthem, oath ceremony, theme song performance and cultural program. In his speech as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui said that the nursing profession is a very respectable profession in the whole world. The oath taken and theme song performed by the students of the 15th batch of BSC in Nursing of Bangladesh Medical University today should be kept in their hearts and turned into faith and assimilated. Nurses are a place of refuge for patients. It is desirable to provide service to patients by talking to them with a smile and sharing their feelings of happiness and sorrow. Nurses are the lifeblood of the hospital, this heartbeat should be kept strong at every moment by serving patients with sincerity. May there be no stagnation in the work of serving patients. Just as it is expected that the nurses of Bangladesh Medical University will be role models for the country and be emulated, it is also desirable that Bangladeshi nurses will spread throughout the world. Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Professor Dr. Md. Monir Hossain Khan, presided over the program, and special guests included BMU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Mostafa Kalam, Proctor Professor Dr. Sheikh Farhad, and others. Graduate Nursing Department teachers Associate Professor Harun Or Rashid Gazi, Associate Professor Delwara Begum, Assistant Professor Hasina Akhter, Assistant Professor Mosa Nasrin, Assistant Professor Nupur De Costa, Assistant Professor Bithika Mali, Lecturer Naima Siddika, Lecturer Tumpa Gharami, Lecturer Zubaida Khatun, Lecturer Bushra-e-Jannat, Lecturer Deepika Majumder, Lecturer Sujan Mia, Service Supervisor Rashida Begum and others were present at the event. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad said, the cap that the nurses wore today is a symbol of motivation. There are many examples of nurses saving many dying patients by providing proper and timely service. Human service is the greatest worship, this saying is even more realistic and relevant with nursing service. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader said, “Nursing is a high-quality profession. Nurses are indispensable partners in the well-being of patients. The current administration of BMU has appointed 516 nurses from 32,000 nurses by evaluating their merit and has solved the grading problem of nurses that has existed for many years. Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar said, “Service is our religion, service is our work. If we keep this in mind, the questions and even some dissatisfaction of the patients receiving the service regarding the nursing services will be eliminated. Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Mustafa Kalam said, “No medical service system can function without nursing services. Nurses are the ones who stand by the patients all the time and provide services. It is desirable that the country’s healthcare system will be further strengthened through improved nursing services.” Proctor Professor Dr. Sheikh Farhad said, “Nurses are by the side of patients in their most helpless moments. We must continue to provide services to patients by treating them well. The country’s health system, including nursing services, must be advanced with the skills, honesty, talent and humanity of nurses.” He also said that the current nurses of BMU have ended the long 17-year deprivation and the relentless efforts of the current administration of BMU to develop nursing education and services will continue in the coming days. Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Professor Dr. Md. Monir Hossain Khan said that the Faculty of Nursing of BMU is working to improve the quality of nursing education in the country. Currently, educational programs for obtaining BSC, MSc and PhD degrees in nursing education have been launched.
