This complex and life-saving treatment was successfully completed at the specialized medical unit for mothers and fetuses of the capital’s Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on Tuesday (June 30).

This successful anesthesia was administered by renowned anaesthetist Assistant Professor Dr. Md. Sharif Hossain and Assistant Professor Dr. Asadul Majid Hilali (Noman) at Shahid Suhrawardy Medical.
The overall supervision was provided by Professor Dr. Rehan Uddin Khan, Head of the Department of Anesthesia.
Dr. Khandaker Shehnila Tasmin, Head of the Phyto-Maternal Medicine Unit of Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, led the medical program. He was accompanied by Professor Dr. Sultana Afroz, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Professor Dr. Israt Jahan and Professor Dr. Khaledunnesa.
In addition, Professor Dr. Ainul Islam Khan, Head of the Department of Pediatrics and Principal of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, Assistant Professor Dr. Habibur Rahman, Head of the Department of Blood Transfusion, and Associate Professor Dr. Mirza Golam Sarwar, Head of the Department of Hematology, assisted in the medical work.
The unborn child was suffering from a complex disease called fetal hydrops. Along with severe anemia, there was severe anemia.
The gynecologist doctors decided to give the unborn child a blood transfusion. But there were about two more months left until the delivery of the unborn child. That means the pregnant mother is now 27 weeks old. Then the decision was made to give blood while keeping it in the womb. This is also a first in Bangladesh. But the child moves a lot. So he will need to be given anesthesia. The anesthesiologists administered anesthesia by administering a medicine called Athadpanthrans while keeping the fetus in the womb, which was a first in the country’s history.
