A new controversy has arisen over the allegation that a housewife was sexually assaulted in the kitchen of Shyamnagar village in Kashimpur union of Jessore Sadar upazila. It has been alleged that former Kashimpur Union Parishad chairman and union BNP president Ayub Hossain used his power to cover up the incident. Not only that, he has also been accused of dealing a large sum of money in the name of compromise. On the other hand, after investigating the incident, the police registered a case at the Kotwali police station on Wednesday night after finding the primary truth of the complaint. It has also been alleged that an attempt was made to discipline the police as to why the case was filed after the case was filed. The matter has generated widespread discussion and criticism in the area. Many leaders and activists of the local BNP and its affiliates have also expressed anger over the incident. The police said that the victim housewife herself filed the case at the Kotwali police station.

The case report states that on June 15, at around 6 am, she was sweeping the kitchen of her house. At that time, taking advantage of no one being around, Salam Mia of the same village secretly entered the kitchen, grabbed her and tried to sexually assault her. Hearing her screams, the accused ran away when her husband and children came running. The next day, the victim filed a written complaint with the police station. The report also states that Salam Mia had previously been accused of misbehaving with several women in the area. It is alleged that although local arbitration was held in those incidents, an influential group protected him each time.

Multiple sources in the local BNP claim that after the incident, the victim’s family was pressured to go for a compromise settlement instead of filing a case. It is alleged that former chairman Ayub Hossain played an active role in this matter. Allegations of money transactions in the name of compromise are also being discussed locally.

A local BNP source said that after August 5, former chairman Ayub Hossain became reckless. The people of the area became fed up with various atrocities including extortion, encroachment. His name also came up in connection with the incident of looting 4 million taka from a UP chairman of Kaliganj police station. In addition, he was accused of being involved in the murder of Hasan, nephew of Islam Sardar, a former BNP member of the Dakatia area ward. He was suspended from the post of BNP president due to various allegations. However, his suspension was withdrawn before the last national parliament election. After regaining the post, he seemed to see the five legs of a snake again. He started the process of compromise and settlement by claiming to be the chairman candidate in the upcoming union parishad election. Whenever there was any problem, he moved forward on his own initiative. He traded money in the name of compromise and settlement. In addition, the locals have seriously alleged that he has connections with extremist terrorists.

The housewife’s husband said that the incident is true. However, BNP leader Ayub Hossain has resolved the matter. He said that he was forced to accept it because he had to stay in the area.

In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jessore Kotwali Police Station Masum Khan said, a police team has visited the spot several times and talked to the victims and locals. A case was registered against Salam Mia on Wednesday evening after the investigation found primary truth in the allegations. If the investigation finds evidence that anyone tried to influence the plaintiff or cover up the case, action will be taken according to the law.

When asked about the allegations, Kashimpur Union BNP President and former Chairman Ayub Hossain said that he had arbitrated at the request of both parties. At one stage, a settlement was reached with the consent of both parties. He also denied the issue of financial transactions. At the same time, he had previously been suspended from his post due to a conspiracy. This time, he counter-alleged that his opponents were running such propaganda since he was a candidate for the chairman of the union parishad.
