Online acquaintance turned into love, then marriage. Now, a family in Bhola has been accused of demanding Tk 50 lakh, beating, forcing them to sign backdated contracts, and threatening to kill them over the marital relationship. A young man from Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon has filed a written complaint with the police station in this incident.

The complainant, Md. Mumin Hossain, is a resident of Malancha village in Paharpur union of Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon. In his complaint, he mentioned that in 2024, he met and developed a love relationship with a young woman from Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola through Facebook. Later, when the young woman came to his house, they got married with a dowry of 50,000 taka. They currently have a 15-month-old son.

In his written complaint, he further said that in November 2025, his wife and child were taken to their home by their in-laws. On June 18, when he went to his in-laws’ house in Borhanuddin, Bhola, with his relatives to bring his wife back, they were detained and beaten.

He claims that the next day, under threat of domestic weapons, they were forcibly taken to sign a backdated cabinet note of 15 lakh taka and shown to have paid 5 lakh taka. At the same time, 50 lakh taka was demanded. Later, they were thrown out of there under threat of death, it is also mentioned in the complaint.

The complaint further states that one of his relatives is seriously ill and undergoing treatment at Joypurhat Sadar Hospital due to the beating. The complainant also claims that he has received death threats on his mobile phone, the call records of which have been preserved.

The victim has filed a written complaint with the police station accusing five people, including his wife, father-in-law, and mother-in-law, in the incident. He has demanded a proper investigation into the incident and legal action against the culprits.

However, no statement was received from the accused regarding the complaint. The concerned police station has informed that the complaint will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
