The death of Harun Al Rashid, a veteran politician and former member of parliament from Brahmanbaria, has cast a shadow of deep grief across the district. The death of Harun Al Rashid, a veteran politician and former member of parliament from Brahmanbaria, has cast a shadow of deep grief across the district.
To pay his last respects, the third funeral prayer was held at Niaz Muhammad High School grounds in Brahmanbaria city on Saturday (June 20) afternoon. The funeral was attended by leaders and activists of the district BNP and its affiliated organizations, as well as thousands of people from different classes and professions.
Earlier, on Friday (June 29), the first funeral prayer of the deceased was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 11 am. The second funeral prayer was held in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan in the capital after the afternoon prayers. The party’s central leaders, activists and well-wishers participated.
The next day, Saturday (20), the body was brought to his home district of Brahmanbaria, where the third funeral was held after Zuhr prayer with the participation of people from all walks of life.
Leaders, activists and common people from various upazilas and unions started gathering since morning for the funeral held at Niaz Muhammad High School grounds. A mournful atmosphere prevailed in the grounds and surrounding areas. After the funeral, special prayers and supplications were offered seeking forgiveness for the soul of the deceased.
The third funeral was attended by Brahmanbaria Sadar and Bijoynagar 3 constituency MP Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, Nabinagar 5 constituency MP Advocate Abdul Mannan, Nasirnagar 1 constituency MP MA Hannan, Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abu Saeed, Police Superintendent Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf, District Council Administrator Sirajul Islam (Siraj), along with senior officials of the district administration, political figures regardless of party affiliation, and a large number of leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates.
Leaders who attended the funeral said, Harun Al Rashid was an experienced politician who worked for the welfare of the people for a long time. In his political life, he remained steadfast to the party ideology and played a role in the development of Brahmanbaria and the establishment of human rights. His death has created an irreplaceable void not only in the BNP but also in the political arena of the entire district.
The common people who attended the funeral also remembered the deceased. Many said that he easily mixed with the common people and personally participated in various social and humanitarian activities. With his death, the people of the area have lost an experienced guardian.
District BNP leaders said that Harun Al Rashid’s political contributions and his dedication to the organization will be an inspiration for future generations. They prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
After the third funeral, his body was taken to the Sherpur Cemetery in Brahmanbaria city for burial.
At that time, numerous people stood on both sides of the road to bid him farewell for the last time. The entire environment was filled with an atmosphere of mourning, silence and prayer. His death has caused deep grief among the political, social and people of all walks of life in Brahmanbaria.
