With the aim of providing better medical services to children suffering from complex heart diseases including congenital heart defects and to strengthen academic and clinical collaboration, an important Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled ‘The Art and Science of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery: Evolving Status’ was held at the Nimmas Auditorium of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) on June 16, 2026, and a free patient screening program was conducted. BMU’s Department of Pediatric Cardiology, jointly organized by Medestan Healthcare–OLCURE, India, and Max Healthcare, was the chief guest at this CME and free patient screening program. The special guests were BMU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology Professor Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery Professor Dr. Md. Aslam Hossain. The guest and key note speaker at the event was Dr. Kulbhushan Sing Dagar, MBBS, MS, MCh, Chairman of Neonatal and Congenital Heart Surgery, Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi. Other papers were presented by Dr. Tahmina Karim, Associate Professor of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology, BMU, and Dr. Mohammad Ata Ullah, Assistant Professor of the Department of Cardiac Surgery.
Leading surgeons, cardiologists, educators and healthcare professionals from both countries participated in this important CME and discussed in detail the recent advances in pediatric heart disease treatment and various possibilities for regional and mutual cooperation. They said that in the future, more CME programs, free patient screening camps and various joint initiatives related to education and research will be implemented in Bangladesh. For the past two and a half years, BMU and Medistan Healthcare-AllCure have been working together under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance clinical collaboration, expand medical education, provide patient support and ensure access to better treatment. Today’s CME program and free patient screening program are part of that. Speaking as the chief guest at this grand event, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui said that such initiatives will benefit children suffering from congenital and complex heart diseases, at the same time, teachers, doctors, resident students of BMU and other cardiology departments of Bangladesh will be able to enhance their skills and enrich their knowledge base. In addition, those involved in this subject between Bangladesh and India will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge, exchange experiences, exchange information, and gain ideas about new technologies and innovations in medical science. Which will actually bring benefits to children suffering from complex heart diseases. It was informed at the event that as part of this great initiative, a free patient screening program was completed with 70 children with heart disease at Bangladesh Medical University and those selected from among them will be provided with free advanced medical services in India. A 5-member Indian medical delegation led by Dr. Kulbhushan Singh Dagar, Chairman of Neonatal and Congenital Heart Surgery at Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, and Professor Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at BMU, along with teachers, doctors, and residents of the department participated in the patient screening program. It was also informed at the event that Medistan-AllCure has so far provided free heart surgeries and other emergency medical treatment to 200 children from underprivileged families in Bangladesh. These life-saving surgeries were performed in top hospitals in India. Through this, children suffering from congenital and acquired complex heart diseases, who had very limited access to advanced specialized treatment, have gained a new life. It was also informed at the event that to make medical services more convenient and modern, Medistan-AllCure has announced the launch of a specialized healthcare teleconsultation platform very soon. Through this, patients will be able to get a ‘second opinion’ from international medical experts from the comfort of their homes before traveling abroad for treatment. The main goal of this platform is to make cross-border healthcare more accessible, transparent and hassle-free for the common man. They said that this long-term partnership proves how much it is possible to positively change the lives of patients through world-class treatment and innovative technology when educational institutions, healthcare providers and patient support organizations work together. Medistan Healthcare-AllCure sources also said that they will continue their efforts to facilitate access to advanced medical services throughout South Asia, increase international medical cooperation, provide telemedicine services at the national and international levels and conduct specialized patient support activities.
