The body of Rifat, who went missing in the Nabinagar shooting incident, has finally been recovered!
Police have finally recovered the body of Rifat (28), who was shot and went missing in a terrorist attack on Sunday (June 14) night in Barail Das Para (Hindu Para) of Salimganj Union in Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria. Police have finally recovered the body of Rifat (28), who was shot and went missing in a terrorist attack on Sunday (June 14) night in Barail Das Para (Hindu Para) of Salimganj Union in Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The body was recovered by the Karimpur River Police of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station from the Meghna River in Karimpur, Narsingdi on Tuesday (June 16) afternoon.
Confirming the truth of the incident, Narsingdi Sadar Police Station OC MR Al Mamun said at night, “The deceased’s sister came in the evening and identified the deceased Rifat as her ‘brother’. Now, after the post-mortem of the body, the body will be handed over to the deceased’s family after the proper procedure.”
In this regard, deceased Rifat’s sister Mukta Begum broke down in tears at night and said, “My deceased brother Rifat was brutally murdered with numerous bullets in his body and his throat and various body parts cut. We will file a case in this regard after taking the body home and burying it.”
Mukta Begum further informed that the deceased Rifat has a wife and a 3-month-old daughter.
It is learnt that due to various criminal activities including domineering and drug control in the area, a woman named Kanika Das (40) was injured in heavy firing by armed men of Rifat’s opponent Manek Dakat in Das Para of Barail village in Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria on Sunday (June 14) at around 11:30 pm. However, in the firing, ‘Rifat’ (28) was ‘shot’ and after he was killed, his body was ‘disappeared’, which has spread widely in the area for the past two days. This has already gone viral on Facebook along with Rifat’s photo and the story of his disappearance.
Meanwhile, when Kaler Samaj investigated the incident behind Sunday’s shooting, police and local people said that Mannaf Mia alias Manek Dakat, who is well-known as the ‘Emperor’ (most wanted on the police list) of various crimes including drugs, theft, robbery, and kidnapping, controls and dominates the business-rich Salimganj and Barikandi unions of Nabinagar upazila. There are more than 30 cases against him in various police stations including Nabinagar police station.
Locals said that the home of this notorious robber is in Nurjahanpur village of Barikandi Union, adjacent to Salimganj.
On the other hand, the main opponent of Manek Dakat was Emran Master, the younger brother of an SP-ranked police officer (who is now working in Rajshahi). Emran Master’s house is also in Thollakandi village of Barikandi Union.
It is learned that the SP’s brother, Emran Master, is currently undergoing treatment in Dhaka after being seriously injured in an attack by the Manek force a few days ago.
Several local residents, who did not wish to be named, said that on November 1, Rifat, a notorious terrorist of Emran Master’s forces, who was known for controlling everything in the area and expanding his dominance, killed two people, including Shipon Mia (28), another notorious terrorist in the area, and the son of Manek Dakat in Barikandi Ganisha Bazar.
Sources said that in the wake of that incident and to maintain control over various crimes including drug trafficking in the area, 20/25 armed men of the Manek Bahini, led by the two sons of the ‘most wanted’ Manek dacoit, Sumon and Noman, attacked the house of Samir, a supporter of drug dealer Rifat, in Barail Das Para (Hindu Para) at around 11 pm last Sunday, opening fire. At that time, Rifat (28) was staying in Samir’s house. After Rifat was killed in the gunfight, ‘rumors’ arose in the area that the Manek Bahini had ‘disappeared’ Rifat’s body.
Finally, two days later, on Tuesday, the naval police recovered Rifat’s mutilated body from the Meghna River in the Karimpul area of Narsingdi.
In this regard, on Tuesday (June 16) night, Nabinagar Police Station OC Morshedul Alam Chowdhury told Kaler Samaj, “We have also heard about the incident of recovering Rifat’s body. Now, if the family of the deceased files a case with Nabinagar Police Station, we will take necessary legal action.”
However, he said, the family of the deceased can also file a case at the police station where the body was recovered.
