A discussion meeting was organized by the Jessore Journalists Union on the occasion of the historic June 16 Black Day. The meeting was organized at the Press Club Jessore auditorium on Tuesday (June 16) at 11:30 am.
At the discussion held under the chairmanship of Jashore Journalists Union President Akramuzzaman and moderated by General Secretary SM Farhad, speakers emphasized the historical importance of Black Day and the role of journalists in protecting media freedom.
Jahid Hasan Tukun, President of Press Club Jessore, spoke as the chief guest at the discussion meeting. He said that journalists have played an important role in establishing truth and justice during various critical times in history. Poet, researcher and journalist Benzin Khan spoke as the chief discussant at the discussion meeting. He said that there is no alternative for journalists to remain united to protect democracy, freedom of expression and the rights of the people.
Also speaking at the discussion meeting were Ahsan Kabir, former general secretary of Press Club Jessore, Nur Islam, former joint assistant secretary general of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and former president of Journalists Union Jessore, BM Asad, vice president of Journalists Union Jessore, former general secretaries Saifur Rahman, Saiful Islam Sajal, senior journalists Mohammad Abdullah Hussain, Sarwar Hossain and Ashraful Azad, and Tariqul Islam Tarek, among others.
Other speakers said, “Black Day is not just a memorable day, it is an important chapter in history. This day provides inspiration to further strengthen our democratic values, human rights and the practice of independent journalism. They called on everyone to work together to establish the professional dignity, safety and rights of journalists.”
Leaders of the Jessore Journalists Union, members of the Press Club, and journalists working in various media outlets were present at the discussion meeting.
