An awareness-raising meeting was held with students at Naogaon Government Girls High School on drugs, child marriage, road accidents, and teenage cybercrime.

Naogaon District Police Superintendent Mohammad Tariqul Islam was present as the main discussant at the meeting held on Tuesday (June 16) morning at the school premises.

In the meeting, the Superintendent of Police gave an important directional speech to the students through a power point presentation. He said that in the current society, drug addiction, child marriage, road accidents and cyber crimes are increasing at an alarming rate. Students, especially female students, must play a conscious and responsible role in preventing these crimes.

Warning about drugs, he said that drugs not only destroy an individual’s life but also a family and society. Therefore, he called for building social resistance against it.

Regarding child marriage, he said, “It is a social disease and a punishable crime. As a result, the education, health and normal development of adolescents are hindered. He emphasized the need to make students, families and society aware of such incidents.”

Highlighting the need to follow traffic laws and behave consciously to prevent road accidents, the Superintendent of Police said that even a little ignorance can lead to a major accident.

Regarding cybercrime, he urged people to be cautious while using social media, not to share personal information or photos with strangers, and to be aware of online fraud, cyberbullying, and fraud through mobile financial services. He advised people to seek help from law enforcement agencies immediately if they are victims of any kind of online harassment.

More than three hundred students participated in the one and a half hour long program and exchanged views with the Superintendent of Police on various issues during the question and answer session. Later, some of the participating students were awarded.

The program was presided over by the school’s headmistress, Mosa. Rabeya Khatun. She thanked the district police for such a timely initiative and urged the students to follow the guidelines received.

At the end of the meeting, the students expressed their determination to develop themselves as aware, responsible, and law-abiding citizens.
