A day-long preparatory cluster development workshop was held in Kotalipara Municipality of Gopalganj to ensure climate-resilient, sustainable infrastructure expansion, quality improvement of citizen services and future urban planning.

The workshop was organized at the Municipality Hallroom on Thursday (June 11) at 10 am with the joint funding of the Government of Bangladesh and the World Bank and a joint initiative of Kotalipara Municipality and the Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project.

The workshop, held under the chairmanship of Kotalipara Upazila Executive Officer and Municipal Administrator Sagufta Haque, was moderated by LGED Urban Planner Saifur Rahman (Rajan) and Kotalipara Municipality Executive Officer Piyush Kanti Biswas.

Kotalipara Municipality Assistant Engineer Rajib Bhakta delivered the welcome speech at the beginning of the program.

In addition, Kotalipara Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Kumar Mridul Das, Upazila Engineer Shafiul Azam, Upazila BNP President SM Mohiuddin, General Secretary Abul Basar Howlader, Municipal BNP President Yusuf Ali Daria and General Secretary Oliur Rahman Howlader, BNP leaders Fayequzzaman, Chleman Sheikh, Municipal Jamaat President Akhter Daria and others delivered speeches at the workshop.

Around 50 representatives including leaders of various political parties, male and female members of the Town Level Coordination Committee, officials of various government departments and local engineers participated in the workshop.

LGED Dhaka’s Social Management Expert Md.  Zahidul Islam, Environmental Specialist Al Amin, Design Engineer Sanim Arefin and Office Engineer Shamsur Rahman.

The speakers said that there is no alternative to far-reaching urban planning and improved citizen services to build a modern, planned and environmentally friendly municipality. Under the project, an integrated master plan will be formulated taking into account the current and future citizen needs of Kotalipara Municipality, which will serve as an outline for long-term development.

The participants in the workshop presented various recommendations and opinions for the sustainable and planned development of Kotalipara Municipality. The concerned said that necessary steps will be taken to formulate future development plans after reviewing these opinions.

The speakers expressed their hope that such participatory workshops will play an important role in building a livable, disaster-tolerant and modern municipality by giving importance to the expectations and real needs of the local people.

The concerned officials said that an integrated development plan will be formulated for Kotalipara Municipality based on the feedback and recommendations received at the workshop. According to them, if this plan is implemented, the infrastructural development of the municipality will be accelerated and the quality of citizen services will also increase significantly.
