Narsingdi-Sadar constituency MP Khairul Kabir Khokon (MP) has expressed concern in Parliament that the country’s rivers and fisheries are being severely destroyed due to the discharge of untreated waste from industries.

He raised this issue with the Honorable Minister of Forests, Environment and Climate Change through the Speaker in the session of the National Parliament on June 10.
Khokon said, “One of the reasons for the destruction of the country’s rivers and fisheries is industrial waste. Due to the uncontrolled dumping of toxic waste into the rivers, fish are dying, agricultural land is becoming barren and human health is being put at risk.

He demanded immediate strict action against polluting industries and imposition of obligation to establish waste treatment plants. At the same time, this MP from Narsingdi called for effective initiatives on the part of the ministry to protect the rivers.

He drew the attention of the minister to inform the parliament about the measures the Ministry of Environment is taking in this regard.
