Huge Turnout at Funeral Prayers of Former Sreepur Mayor and Awami League Leader Anisur Rahman
A large number of people attended the funeral prayers of former Sreepur Municipality Mayor and Awami League leader Anisur Rahman and his sister Rashida Khatun in Gazipur. A large number of people attended the funeral prayers of former Sreepur Municipality Mayor and Awami League leader Anisur Rahman and his sister Rashida Khatun in Gazipur.
The funeral prayer was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (June 8) at the English Educare Field adjacent to the late leader’s residence in Madhkhala area of Sreepur Upazila.
People from all walks of life, including leaders and activists of various political parties, public representatives, members of social and cultural organizations, businesspersons, educators, and local residents, joined the funeral prayer regardless of political affiliation. The overwhelming presence of mourners created a deeply sorrowful atmosphere throughout the area.
Special prayers were offered seeking forgiveness and eternal peace for the departed souls. Following the funeral prayer, they were laid to rest at the family graveyard.
According to family sources, Anisur Rahman had been suffering from kidney disease, heart complications, and several other health issues for a long time. He passed away on Sunday (June 7) while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Uttara, Dhaka. After hearing the news of her brother’s death, his younger sister Rashida Khatun became seriously ill and later also passed away.
It is worth mentioning that Anisur Rahman was elected the first mayor after the establishment of Sreepur Municipality in 2002 and served four consecutive terms as mayor. He also served as the former Organizing Secretary of the Gazipur District Awami League.
His death has cast a shadow of grief over Sreepur and the entire Gazipur district.
