Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Tamshid Iram Khan conducted the operation in the Hospital Mor area of Gobindaganj Municipality on Wednesday (June 3) afternoon.
Pharmacy owner Anwar Hossain (36) is the son of Alef Uddin Bepari of Sardarhat area of Shibpur union of the upazila.
It is learned that recently, a 3-month pregnant woman named Hurey Jannat purchased HPC (hydroxyprogesterone caproate) injection from Popular Medicine Corner and Surgical Pharmacy on the advice of a doctor at a private clinic and injected it into her body. This raised the possibility of her having a miscarriage. When the matter of expired medicine came up on investigation, the victim lodged a written complaint with the police station and the upazila administration.
Mehedi Hasan, Deputy Director of the District Drug Administration, said that the pharmacy owner was sentenced to 15 days of simple imprisonment and a fine of Tk 50,000 under Sections 40 (b) and (c) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 2023 in a mobile court for the crime of selling expired drugs and physician samples.
