On Monday (May 25), 15 people died when a truck overturned on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway in Tangail’s Kalihati early in the morning. Several others were injured in the incident. This turned Eid joy into sadness.

On the spot, it was seen that the truck was overturned next to the highway. The rods were lying on the ground. Local people were gathering.

Truck passenger Rabbani told Jaago News, I was sleeping. Suddenly I saw that the truck had overturned. After that, I can’t say anything more. We were 22 passengers in the truck.

Another passenger of the truck, Tariqul Islam, told Jaago News that the truck was supposed to go to Manda upazila of Naogaon district. We had left Chittagong to go to Chapainawabganj from Alankar. The bus fare was originally 1700 to 1800 taka per person. We boarded the truck for less money. We paid 2300 taka for 4 people. Out of them, two of my relatives died.

A relative of the deceased told Jago News, three of my relatives have died. At 10 pm, they boarded a truck from Feni for less money to go to Naogaon. The bus fare from Feni was 1700-1800 taka. The truck fare was 300 to 400 taka per person. But they died because they boarded the truck for less money.

Locals said that the accident happened around 4:30 am. We reached the spot immediately after the accident. We rescued the passengers by cutting the road. This accident could have happened due to overtaking in parallel. Moreover, it is not supposed to be such a big accident.

Local resident Abdul Aziz said, when we came in the morning, we saw 15 bodies lying there. Several people were injured. The bodies of the deceased were recovered and brought to the police station. The injured were rescued and sent to the hospital.
