On the initiative of the Honorable Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, Rajshahi City Corporation has started a program to distribute free plastic-free eco-friendly bags and bleaching powder among the residents of Rajshahi metropolis for the first time to ensure the hygienic preservation of sacrificial meat and the prompt removal of post-sacrificial waste. On Thursday at 2 pm, the program was officially inaugurated by the Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton at Ward No. 9 in the city’s Dargapara area. At that time, he officially inaugurated it by handing over eco-friendly bags and bleaching powder to a few people. Then, he went door to door in the Dargapara area and distributed the bags and bleaching powder among the citizens.
Under this special initiative, each Muslim family in 82,000 holdings in Rajshahi metropolis is being provided with 3 eco-friendly bags to preserve sacrificial meat in a hygienic manner, 2 large eco-friendly bags and 1 kg of bleaching powder for those sacrificing cows or buffaloes, and 1 eco-friendly bag and 500 grams of bleaching powder for those sacrificing goats or sheep.
During the inauguration, RASIK Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton told reporters that in order to implement the election manifesto of Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and protect the environment and public health, special initiatives have been taken to quickly remove the waste of sacrificial animals during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. Each Muslim family is being provided with 3 eco-friendly bags so that the sacrificial meat can be stored hygienically. In addition, 2 large eco-friendly bags and 1 kg of bleaching powder will be provided for those who sacrifice cows or buffaloes, and 1 eco-friendly bag and 500 grams of bleaching powder will be provided for those who sacrifice goats or sheep. These eco-friendly bags are biodegradable, which will mix with the soil. We have taken this initiative for the first time. There is a plan to make Rajshahi a polythene-free city in the future. We are working to ensure citizen services.
The RASIC administrator said, “As per the Prime Minister’s instructions, all preparations have been completed to remove the sacrificial waste within 12 hours. We will succeed in removing all the sacrificial waste within 10 to 12 hours, InshaAllah. With everyone’s cooperation, the residents of Rajshahi will get a clean city the day after Eid.”
Urging the city residents, RASIK Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said, “It is the sacred duty of all of us to ensure a clean, odor-free and healthy environment in the city by quickly removing the post-sacrifice waste. Refrain from slaughtering animals on drains and throwing blood and waste into drains. Sacrifice waste should not be thrown anywhere, but should be kept in bags provided by RASIK and kept at designated places, which will be collected by the city corporation’s cleaning staff. After removing the animal blood and waste, sprinkle sufficient amount of bleaching powder.”
Chief Cleaning Officer of the RSC Sheikh Md. Mamun Dollar said, Rajshahi City Corporation has taken this initiative for the first time in the whole country. This is an innovative initiative of the RSC Administrator. I hope that with everyone’s cooperation, the new initiative will be successful and the city residents will benefit.
