At BMU World Nurses Day celebrated through rally, discussion, tree plantation

Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) celebrated World Nurses Day 2026 on 12 May 2026 through various programs including rally, discussion meeting, tree plantation and others.  Tuesday, the rally was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. FM Siddiqui at BMU campus by hoisting the national flag and university flag, releasing balloons and pigeons. The rally, organized with the theme 'Our Nurses, Our Future - Needed to Save Lives, Empowering Nurses', circumambulated the BMU campus and ended at the Super Specialized Hospital. Later, in the discussion held at the A Block Auditorium of BMU, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, in his speech as the chief guest, said that the quality of nursing services at BMU must be upgraded to international standards. Nursing is a sacred profession. Nursing education, research and services must be upgraded to international standards and people’s lives must be saved by providing healthcare to the people of Bangladesh. Despite disappointments and limitations, nurses must move forward by overcoming them. In his speech as a special guest, Honorable Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhtar said, “The contribution of nurses to healthcare is immense. We ourselves must come forward to create necessary posts, provide accommodation, and strengthen training workshops for the development of the nursing profession.” Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Professor Dr. Md. Monir Hossain Khan said, Nursing education has come a long way. Opportunities have been created to earn BSC Nursing, MSc Nursing, PhD degrees from Bangladesh Medical University. However, there is still a lot to be done to improve nursing services, which if ensured, will raise the standard of nursing services in Bangladesh to world standards. I urge nurses to serve patients with a good attitude and sympathy towards patients. Other speakers said that it is desirable that nurses at Bangladesh Medical University establish themselves as models in nursing service, examples to follow and emulate. Finally, a delightful cultural program was organized.
