A woman who was tortured by her husband has alleged that he beat her up, seriously injured her, vandalized the furniture of the house and looted the goods for 5 lakh taka of dowry money in Palash, Narsingdi. It is known that approximately 6 years ago, Antar Mia, son of Sirajul Islam of Charsindur village of Palash police station, married Rina Begum, daughter of Khokon Mia of the same village. After marriage, a daughter was born to Rina Begum in the womb of Antar during their married life. Currently, their child is 5 years old. Since marriage, Antar Mia, at the instigation of his maternal uncle Ripon Mia and mother Nilufa Begum, had been physically and mentally torturing his wife for dowry money.  For the future happiness and peace of Rina Begum, the parents of the complainant Rina Begum built a one-story pucca house for her husband Antar Mia to live in on the land owned by her parents. Antar Mia, his wife Rina Begma and her infant child were living in the house given by Rina Begum. After building the one-story house, Rina Begum’s parents could not make Antar Mia, her mother and maternal uncle Ripon Mia happy.  In that sequence, on Friday evening, 01/05/2026, at approximately 7 pm, the accused Antar demanded a dowry of 5 lakh taka from Rina Begum. When Rina Begum expressed her inability to pay the dowry, Antar Mia, Rina Begum’s husband, with the direct and indirect cooperation of Antar Mia’s maternal uncle Ripon Mia and mother-in-law Nilufa Begum, beat Rina Begum in various places on her body, causing painful injuries. Ripon Mia and Nilufa Begum broke into the cupboard of the steel kept in Rina Begum’s house and took away 50 thousand taka in cash, two and a half bharis of gold jewelry, Ripon Mia and Nilufa Begum. The refrigerator, sink, TV, water drop, dressing table, bed, 5 chairs, 3 charger fans, and Infinix mobile phone.  They vandalized the cupboards, doors, windows, etc. of the house, causing an estimated damage of 5 lakh taka and took these goods to destroy the evidence and said that they would not marry Rina Begum unless she gave them 5 lakh taka as dowry. If Antar Mia, her mother and uncle went too far in this matter, they threatened to kill Rina Begum, her parents and witnesses and left. After this incident, Rina Begum was rescued in a wounded and life-threatening condition by her relatives and was treated. In view of this incident, the complainant Rina Begum filed a case against her husband Antar Mia, mother-in-law Nilufa Begum and Ripon Mia under the existing laws including the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act in the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court, Narsingdi on 4/5/2026.  The court took cognizance of the case and ordered the office-in-charge of Palash Police Station to investigate and submit a report.
