The cattle market has started to fill up ahead of Eid al-Adha. However, the most talked about thing in this market is the price of cattle. Sellers say the cost has increased, and the market is going beyond the demands of buyers.

As Eid-ul-Adha approaches, the cattle markets of Gaibandha district are now bustling with buyers and sellers. Marginal farmers, ranchers and traders are coming to the market with all kinds of small, medium and large cows. Some have been raising these sacrificial animals for a few months, while others have been raising them for one to two years or more. Traders have purchased these cows from different parts of the country and brought them to the market in rows.
However, buyers who come to the market say that although the supply of cows in the market is good, the prices are very high this time. Along with large cows, buyers are more interested in small and medium-sized domestic cows. That is why sellers are charging relatively high prices for these cows. This is making middle-class buyers struggle to keep up with their budgets. 
Buyer Asad Mia, who came to Dariapurhat, said that the price of cattle is much higher this year than every year. As Eid approaches, the price is also increasing. Due to the high price, everyone is interested in small cattle.
Marginal farmers and ranchers who came to the market with high prices claim that the cost of raising cattle has also increased several times this year due to the increase in the cost of cow feed, husk, straw, medicine and labor. Therefore, even though they are asking for a higher price compared to the previous year, they do not consider it too high.
Meanwhile, cattle traders also said that in addition to buying cattle at a higher price, the transportation cost to bring cattle to the market has increased. They have to pay additional expenses including truck rental, labor costs and lease of the market. As a result, they are keeping the price a little higher to keep their profit figures correct.
Seller Mujibur Rahman, who came to Dariapurhat, said that the cost of buying cattle is high, which is why they are asking for a higher price. The price of cattle has increased this year because farmers are spending more on raising cattle.Ratan Mia, a marginal farmer from Dhopadanga village in Sundarganj district, said that the price of all grain foods including flour and bran has doubled compared to last year. The price of cows is not comparable. When the cost of raising cows is calculated, the price of cows is not available.Rasheduzzaman, a representative of the lessee of Gaibandha’s Dariyarpur Hat, said that those concerned expect that sales will pick up at the very end of Eid. Then, as the pressure from buyers increases, the prices will also increase.This time, sacrificial animals will be sold and bought through a total of 41 markets in the district, 26 permanent and 15 temporary.
