Despite the administration’s ban, there has been an incident of theft of trees from the Waqf State in Thakurgaon. The state’s Motawalli police station informed about the non-cooperation, but the police station said that action would be taken subject to investigation into the matter.

The incident of tree felling and theft took place in the Sarkar Waqf Estate in Senihari Sarkarpara area of West Ruhia UP of Ruhia Police Station of Thakurgaon district on Monday afternoon. Yesterday, the OC of Ruhia Police Station informed about taking necessary action. In this regard, the Motawalli of the Waqf Estate Humayun Kabir filed a complaint mentioning the names of Nasirul Islam (40), Nafi Islam (20), Rajekul Islam (42) and 5/6 unidentified people.

According to the information, the accused Nasirul Islam was in a dispute with Humayun Kabir, the Motawalli of the Sarkar Waqf Estate in Senihari Sarkarpara area of Pashmi Ruhia UP under Ruhia Police Station. On the day of the incident, on Monday afternoon, Nasirul Islam and Nafi Islam along with a few others started cutting down a few large eucalyptus trees in the Waqf Estate. When Humayun Kabir, the Motawalli of the estate, was in Thakurgaon due to his work, the locals called him and informed him about the matter. He quickly reached the spot and called the emergency number 999, and the Ruhia Police Station went there and prohibited the cutting of the trees. Later, when the police left the spot and taking advantage of the absence of Motawalli Humayun Kabir, they cut down the trees again and stole them. Later, Motawalli Humayun Kabir mentioned their names and filed a complaint against 5/6 unknown people.

Ruhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Badiul Alam said that following a complaint by Humayun Kabir on 999, the police went to the spot and took cognizance of the matter and stopped those who were cutting the trees. I have heard that trees were stolen even after this. Action will be taken in this regard subject to investigation.
