Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal, NDC, AFWC, PSC, Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, has called for the development of the Fire Service and Civil Defense as a transparent, accountable and genuine service-giving institution through the collective efforts of all. He said this at a program organized on Monday May 4, 2026 at 10 am at the Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters to celebrate International Firefighters Day with officers and employees of all levels. In the first part of the program, the Director General received the darbar. In the second part, 80 officers and employees selected from all over the country were awarded professional honors and 73 children of officers and employees who achieved GPA 5 were awarded educational honors.

Upon arriving at the darbar ceremony at 10:00 am, Director (Training, Planning and Development) Lt. Col. MA Azad Anwar, PSC, respectfully greeted the Director General and handed over the darbar. Qari Md. Kudrat Ullah, leader of Siddiqbazar Fire Station, recited from the holy book. Then the Director General began receiving his darbar. On the eve of receiving the darbar, the Director General paid tribute to all the firefighters of the world on the occasion of International Firefighters Day and prayed for the forgiveness of the souls of the deceased.

He then outlined the steps taken and development work undertaken during his tenure in the Fire Service and Civil Defense. He requested everyone for their overall cooperation in matters related to the e-fire license launched nationwide from May 1. At the same time, he pledged to complete the upcoming recruitment with transparency like the previous recruitment and called on everyone to cooperate.

He expressed satisfaction with the response and operational activities of the Fire Service in various accidents across the country. He expressed his sincere gratitude to everyone, stating that the operational activities are being successfully completed with the efforts of officers and employees at all levels. At the same time, he urged everyone to strive to maintain the reputation of the organization. He also instructed to take necessary steps at all levels to implement the commitments made by the current government for the Fire Service and Civil Defense. At this stage, he patiently listened to the various opinions of the officers and employees who were present in person and connected online in the court and answered their various questions.

The second part of the program began at 11:00 am. In the second part, 10 people from Dhaka Division were awarded crests, certificates and financial awards out of 80 people selected for their special skills and bravery in operations and rescue work recently on the occasion of International Firefighters Day. Then, 73 children of officers and employees who obtained GPA 5 in the SSC and HSC examinations in 2025 were awarded crests and cash awards by the Department and 17 people from Dhaka Division as educational awards. The rest were awarded by the Divisional Deputy Directors from their respective departments on behalf of the Director General. 3 of the awardees expressed their reactions. Then he participated in a photo session with the awardees. After the photo session, the Director (Administration and Finance) of the Department, Mr. Md. Shahid Atahar Hossain, delivered a speech and thanked everyone involved directly and online.

The program was attended by the directors of the department, project directors, and the managing director of the Welfare Trust, as well as officers and employees of all levels working in Dhaka. In addition, the divisional deputy directors and district officers of all departments were connected online from their respective workplaces.
